The Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, regulates the postgraduate studies in the context of adaptation to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Doctoral degrees are official, not only in Europe but worldwide.

The purpose of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies at the UIB is to centralise and coordinate postgraduate training and its academic and administrative supervision, providing support and information for administrative management to various administrative centers at the UIB, facilitating the progressive adaptation of the UIB to guidelines of the European higher education.

The Centre for Postgraduate Studies is the advisory body responsible for the coordination of official postgraduate degrees and programmes and UIB own postgraduate programmes. This advisory body encourages and promotes all courses and training activities within the continuous education programme at the UIB.

The Centre for Postgraduate Studies is also accountable for the accreditation of diplomas for students with foreign degrees and the approval of official postgraduate degrees.
